29 January 2016

A missed opportunity.  Earlier this week I looked down to see a large fox trotting briskly between the gravestones.  Sadly it was moving too fast and, it being dusk, the light too poor for me to have any chance of getting a shot.  I'll keep looking out for Reynard by daylight.

The problem with a project of this nature is that seasonal change occurs so slowly as to almost unnoticeable from week to week, at least at this time of year.  I could have opted for monthly posts, but that would have failed to reflect the speed of change once spring arrives.  So today the view looks remarkably similar to what's gone before.  More dull skies....

So the most exciting thing I can offer from the Balcony is a bus going past....

There, now that was exciting, wasn't it?

No?

OK, here's some ground level shots from the cemetery itself, just to prove I do actually leave the flat sometimes.  I'll be adding more from down there over the coming months, as there are some bits of interest.

Next week.... probably another weather report.

22 January 2016

Dreich this morning....

With some big dubs from all the rain

And a blank horizon beyond the drizzle

And all looking a bit miserable (not that a cemetery is necessarily the most cheery of places....)

So it was good to see the sun come out in the afternoon.  Ridiculously warm for January though.

But even the sunshine couldn't make the view as pretty as it was last weekend.  On Saturday night it snowed.

And on Sunday morning the world looked perfect.

In all directions

Especially early on before it was fully light.

If only it had lasted.

As snow always improves the background.

But by the end of Monday it was all gone.  With the current warmer weather now forecast to be with us until at least the end of the month I wonder I there will be snow in Pilrig again this winter.  My lens keeps hoping.

15 January 2016

Felt even colder than last week this morning, yet there's little sign of frost by mid morning.

And the shadows are strong and lengthy

Although maybe even more dramatic yesterday afternoon.

Visitors.  After flying around together a large seagull perches atop the monument, while his mate the crow settles on the grass below.

Late afternoon, the graveyard is vanishing into the shadows while the skyline is lit up by the sun.  Maybe we've got some sunsets worth seeing coming up soon.

8 January 2016

Bit frosty this morning.

The cars were frosty, the houses were frosty

The paths were frosty.

Even the odd frozen puddle.

Does make it that bit prettier though.

There's a new, and very floral, grave this week, visible through the branches.

You can see it a bit more clearly on the left edge of this shot.

Next week....snow?  (Please)

1 January 2016

Welcome to A Year in the Life.... of Death, a weekly view of how the seasons change in Rosebank Cemetery.  None of which will make much sense until Spring has sprung and the views vary.

Today it's cloudy, but dry and just a couple of degrees above freezing.

This view is towards the north east.

While this is the north west side.

And this is somewhere in between the two.  (Err, north?)

While this tree will feature a lot.

Finally.  Here's what things looked like a little after midnight as 2016 came into being.

Happy New Year everyone.
