29 July 2016

Nothing much to see, move along now.

It was cloudy at 07.45

So the patterns in the sky had the drama

It was brighter by 08.45.  But that was about as good as it got all day

But it's still a pleasure to look out on the greenery

Roll on next week.

22 July 2016

We've had it all this week, from baking sunshine through to raging thunderstorm.  But today's just a bit.... dull again.

That tree I showed you last week still has it's strange colour variegation

So I've been down to take a closer look.  A friend has suggested it may be a handkerchief tree, aka Davidia inolucrata. (link)  And it looks like it might be, but now fading beyond the stage usually shown in most photos.  However I will defer to others in this.  I am to the identification and naming of vegetation what Boris Johnson is to diplomacy and possessing principles.

While was down in a part of the graveyard I rarely visit I took a few more pictures.

And, tucked away in the corner under an evergreen, the simple memorial to the stillborn.

I like graveyards....

15 July 2016

We've been away for much of this week, so I have little to offer today.  These were taken around 8.30 in the evening when we returned, so a slight change for the usual morning shots.

And last week's freshly dug grave had been filled when we got back, here hidden behind the cross.

As we set off I took this pic of one of the trees.  From a distance it looks like it's covered in flowers, but a closer examination shows the brighter colours to be the leaves at the branch extremities.  Anyone know what it is?

And all I've got left are a few sunset photos from early in the week.

8 July 2016

Why, after a run of beautiful sunny mornings, did today start with a downpour?  Grey skies, stair rods coming down, puddles breaking up the lines of the pathways, and that extra intensity of green a soaking brings to the trees.

Life, and death, goes on, and yesterday the gravediggers were back.

Today their interim handiwork is there to see.  So when's the burial?

For now a seagull stands guard.

While his mate provides backup overhead.

It was sunny most of the week, honest.  So nice that I couldn't resist a walk through the avenues of trees and stonemasonry.

It's a sad, beautiful place to meander through.  Some bits sadder than others.  This is the grave I first pictured here back on 5 February, expecting that a slab of marble would soon mark out the spot.  But look at it today.  Gone and forgotten?
